This year is the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I and the 100th anniversary of the NAACP’S fight to save the lives of Black soldiers falsely accused of murder.
See a film about the little-known history of the largest murder trial in U.S. history resulting in the hanging of 19 Black soldiers and a life sentence for 63 others.
The NAACP will also pay tribute to the following seven Black Calvert County soldiers who lost their lives in service during WWI:
Private Alanza Brown, Private James Butler, Private Wallis Curtis, Private John Gross,
Private Thornton Gorman, Private Joseph S. Jones and Private Benjamin Kent
