Living Well with Diabetes

Diabetes is a disease in which blood glucose levels are above normal. When you have diabetes, your body either doesn’t make enough insulin or cannot use its own insulin as well as it should. Approximately 7.2% of Calvert County residents have been diagnosed with diabetes.

Prediabetes is a condition in which blood sugar is high, but not high enough to be type 2 diabetes.

Living Well with Diabetes Living Well with Diabetes is a 6-week self-management workshop for those with type II diabetes and pre-diabetes. Learn the keys to take charge of your diabetes. Classes are free, but registration is required:

April 15 – May 20, 2019, 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm at Southern Pines Senior Center.
April 18 – May 23, 2019, 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm at Harriet Brown Community Center.

Diabetes Prevention ProgramDesigned for those with prediabetes, this year long lifestyle change program is divided into 16 weekly sessions followed by monthly sessions. The program goal is to reduce body weight by 7% and increase physical activity by 150 minutes per week.
