Adrienne Jones will be the first woman, who happens to be an African American, to become speaker in the state of Maryland. She will be the second African American woman nationally. Karan Bass from California was the first.
The other three African-American male Speakers of the House were John Lynch from Mississippi (1st), Kay Leroy Levi’s from Pennsylvania (2nd), and Willie Brown from California (3rd).
