This book documents the contributions of the Black citizens of Calvert County, Maryland from 1780 to 1950. The focus is on those people and events that affected National policies. For example the author of the Dred Scott Supreme Court decision was from Calvert County, over six thousand Colored troops were trained in Calvert during the Civil War, and Thurgood Marshall had one of his first Civil Rights cases in Calvert County.
